Image quality beyond expectation

Built for hybrid content creators, the EOS R7 delivers superb image quality whatever you shoot – photos, video, or a bit of both.
Canon EOS R7 - Benefit - Image Quality

Whether you’re a photographer who also likes to shoot some video, or a videographer that likes to grab some stills, the EOS R7 delivers results that will blow you away. This true hybrid camera lets you switch between photos and movies with the flick of a switch, but delivers the same intricate details, natural colours and smooth tones however you’re working.

Quite simply, the EOS R7 frees you up to tell stories however you want.

A 32.5 megapixel APS-C sized sensor – designed and manufactured by Canon – produces the perfect balance of detail, speed and low-light performance. High-resolution images look stunning printed large or displayed on high resolution screens. They can also be cropped while editing without any noticeable loss in image quality.

Low light? No problem

When things get dark, the EOS R7 carries on producing superb images. A maximum sensitivity of ISO 32,000 (expandable to ISO 51,200) ensures fast shutter speeds can be used to freeze movement even in low light – perfect for evening sports events or photographing the behaviour of animals at the end of the day.

The camera’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system tracks subjects continuously, its sensitivity allowing you to focus confidently and accurately in conditions as dark as -5EV (or -3.5 EV in movie mode)1. A collaborative Image Stabilizer offers up to 7 stops2 of protection from camera shake when using the RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM .

A choice of file formats

JPEG files are a great choice when you need small file size and maximum compatibility, but the EOS R7 offers another choice: HEIF files (standing for ‘high efficiency image file’) give improved image quality for roughly the same size, when compared with JPEGs. They also offer 10-bit colour, which improves dynamic range and colour gradation.

When quality is paramount, switch to RAW. The EOS R7 offers a number of options, including 14-bit CR3 RAW files, C-RAW files that take up less space with minimal quality loss, and RAW burst. Also available is Dual Pixel RAW, which allows fine tuning of images after they’ve been shot, using our Digital Photo Professional software.

Working with RAW

Available as a free download, our Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software is a complete RAW processing solution. Browse and select images, apply adjustments and edits, then process your images into JPEG, HEIF or TIFF files.

DPP also lets you work with Dual Pixel RAW files, allowing characteristics such as bokeh, point of sharpness and ghosting all to be microadjusted after the shot was taken. The ultimate control for the perfect result.

Canon EOS R7 - Working with RAW in DPP

A neural network image processing engine is used to enhance image quality to new heights.

• Fine detail is better resolved, thanks to the suppression of so-called 'jaggies'
• Moire and false colour are reduced
• Noise reduction improves image quality at high ISO settings
• Any optical distortion, light fall-off or diffraction is also corrected

Converted images are saved to the cloud as either JPEG or HEIF files, which can then be downloaded to your computer or smart device.

Movies for big screens and small

The EOS R7 is able to capture 4K video in a number of ways, and at a variety frame rates and compression methods. It’s easy to set up the EOS R7 to work in the way you want, thanks to a dedicated easy-to-use menu.

When shooting UHD 4K using the full width of the camera’s APS-C sensor, frame rates are available up to 60p. This allows the motion of moving objects to be reproduced with silky smooth clarity, and for smooth slow-motion effects to be created in editing.

For the ultimate image quality, try the EOS R7 4K Fine mode, which oversamples 7K data from the camera’s sensor to make highly detailed 4K/30p footage. This looks stunning played back on 4K displays and can be cropped into during editing when outputting Full HD. There is also a dedicated 4K UHD crop mode, for extra telephoto reach, and Full HD recording at frame rates up to 120p.
